Mazak's UK Tech Centre Opening Exceeds Expectations

During a recent event marking the opening of the Yamazaki Mazak U.K. 2,500-m² European Technology Centre in Worcester, more than 800 visitors had the opportunity to see how the value, innovation and performance of the latest Mazak manufacturing technology can improve productivity and profitability.

At 1,320 m², the new tech centre’s demonstration area alone is more than twice the size of the previous centre in its entirety. The demo space houses 16 machine tools that were all in action for the opening event, providing live cutting demonstrations. The new Megaturn Nexus 900 and Slant Turn Nexus turning centres, which were making their UK debut, attracted particular interest, as did the VTC-800 30/SR machining centre, which was designed and built in Worcester. Visitors also enjoyed practical, hands-on demonstrations of the Mazatrol Matrix and new Mazatrol Smart machine control systems.

The event in Worcester, which closed December 1, gave visitors a first opportunity to see the full extent of the Mazak range on display under one roof. The performance improvements showcased by Mazak engineers in a series of technology presentations were especially popular, and they led to a good many inquiries.

Guided tours of the state-of-the-art 29,000-m² Yamazaki Mazak manufacturing plant in Worcester also were available. Visitors learned that all of the components for the Nexus and new Quick Turn Smart–series machining centres were manufactured in-house on Mazak machines, and that machining capacity at the plant was recently enhanced through investment in a new Versatech V-140N, the largest machine in the Mazak range.

“The response that we received during this opening event exceeded our expectations, with more than 500 people from the UK and some 300 more from elsewhere in Europe visiting the European Technology Centre over the course of the week,” said Tony Saunders, the sales director of Yamazaki Mazak U.K. “A further positive was the response we had in terms of inquiries and confirmation of a significant volume of business during the event.”
