Haas Welcomes HTEC Industry Partners to Brussels Summit

2010-1-16 8:48:09

In November, Haas Automation Europe held its first Haas Technical Education Centre (HTEC) Industry-Partner Summit. This event was an opportunity for representatives from 13 collaborating companies—Haas plus its 12 partners—to meet at Haas’s Brussels-area headquarters and discuss the potential of the HTEC programme.

“This was a very successful first summit,” reports Bert Maes, the HTEC programme coordinator at Haas Europe. “The HTEC initiative is unique and aims to change the way schools in Europe teach CNC technology. The turnout was excellent, and gives a strong indication of how excited everyone is to be part of the programme.”

Some delegates traveled to the summit from as far away as the USA. The event provided a chance for a few HTEC industry partners that have only recently joined the programme to meet and compare experiences with the more-established partners.

This summit was scheduled to coincide with a Haas Automation Europe open house that attracted almost 400 engineers, business owners and students over a two-day period. There, the industry partners were given the opportunity to exhibit their products and services and to make presentations directly to visitors.

The latest company to become an HTEC industry partner is the coolant technology specialist Cimcool, which was represented at the Haas summit by its marketing support manager Cees de Moog, who expressed delight at his company’s being “part of perhaps the most innovative CNC education initiative that Europe has seen for a long time.”

Other Haas industry partners are Keller (didactic software for teaching the principles of CNC machining and graphic programming systems for production), Esprit (CAM software from DP Technology), Mastercam (CAM software from CNC Software), Sandvik Coromant (cutting tools for metalworking), Renishaw (industrial measuring products and probing systems), Blaser (metal-cutting coolant), Chick (work-holding solutions), Schunk (work-holding and automation equipment), Urma (precision tools and tool presetters), Air Turbine Technology Inc. (high-torque, low-vibration, high-speed spindles), and Hainbuch (work-holding technology).

“We are all aware that too many schools have obsolete technology with which to train students,” Bert Maes told delegates in concluding the summit meeting. “Individually, we can achieve little; but collectively, we can change manufacturing education in Europe.”
